Our Involvement
WMA annually presents the Most Valuable Women’s Basketball Player Award in memory of the outstanding leaders and aviation pioneers of the WASP of World War II.
When women first graduated from the Military Service Academies in 1980, the WASP saw an opportunity to recognize the accomplishments of military women as well as educate the public about their group. They began funding the award for the Air Force Academy’s Most Valuable Women’s Basketball Player and for 33 years traveled to the Academy in Colorado Springs to present the award in person to the team’s MVP. In 2014, WASP Marty Wyall asked the WMA Historical Committee to take over the presentation for them, a responsibility enthusiastically assumed by WMA members.
WMA members across the country participate in airshows and STEM events to share their love of aviation and encourage youth to pursue their aviation dreams.
