Current Issues
WMA is a proud member of Military Aviator Coalition for Health (MACH). MACH is a nationwide alliance of veteran-led organizations working to advance legislation, policy, and research that addresses the serious and often overlooked health consequences of military aviation as well as support aircrew and caregivers affected by these issues. MACH advocates for comprehensive studies and solutions on issues such as cancer, high-G repetitive strain injuries (High-G RSI), and toxic exposure. Key campaigns include the Aviation Cancer Examination Study (ACES) Act, which aims to identify links between military flight and cancer incidence; the Rotary Wing Cancer Study, which seeks to extend this research to helicopter crews; efforts to address high-G related musculoskeletal injuries; and the development of a national registry to track aviator health outcomes across branches and airframes.
WMA members and the broader WMA community can support MACH by amplifying awareness of these campaigns, engaging with policymakers, joining the registry, and contributing personal health experiences to strengthen the case for further research and care. WMA’s longstanding leadership in aviation advocacy makes it a critical partner in this fight. By lending their voices, sharing MACH initiatives, and participating in public comment periods or Hill advocacy, WMA members can help ensure military aviators – all fleets, seats, ranks, and roles – past, present, and future—receive the healthcare and recognition they’ve earned.
