Happy New Year, WMA!
First, I want to congratulate those recently elected to serve on the WMA Board.
I am very happy to say that we have some “new blood” in the mix and I believe everyone is excited to get involved with WMA and the many possibilities that lie ahead.
I would like to sincerely thank the outgoing Board members (Patti McFetridge, Liz Ruth, Kim Young, Lucy Young, Barb Garwood, Jane O’Dea, and Carey Lohrenz) who have been a pleasure to work with over the last two years. We all know that WMA is a 100% volunteer organization, and we couldn’t survive without the motivation and dedication of those that participate and help keep WMA a great organization to belong to.
I would also like to thank Jules Wingard (our webmaster) and the committee chairs (Kim Young – Membership, Peggy Phillips – Scholarship, and Marcy Atwood and Margie Varuska – Historical) who’s work was extremely important to WMA, particularly to Margie and Marcy for doing all of the legwork to establish The Texas Women’s University as our official archive. That is a milestone that we can all be proud of!
The last two years flew by, and of course we didn’t get nearly where I’d hoped that we would be – namely a much larger organization with a membership that includes more of the women military aviators that I know are out there! I hope that will come in time.
I look forward to continuing to serve as a Board member, and especially to meeting new friends and reconnecting with old ones at the next WAI conference in Orlando this March. The flight suit social is always something to look forward to! I encourage anyone who is able, to attend.
I encourage you to become more involved with WMA, either by telling someone you meet about who we are and how to join, or sending in photos or news that we can post on Facebook or the website!
